Some Smart Picks proved they’re aptly named. Others? Well, let’s just say “Saturday” rhymes with “my bankroll took a holiday.”

The Highlights

Let’s not kid ourselves — with a 4-6 finish, we’re snatching pearls from rubble here. But if you tailed the wins, a little smile crept across your face.

Chicago White Sox +1.5 was our day’s little black dress: practical, safe, and never lets you down. Even as Toronto’s bats tried to flex, the South Siders kept it close, losing by just one. That’s how run lines should make you feel: smart, not sweaty.

Milwaukee Brewers ML was flatter than bratwurst for a few early innings, but once the Marlins’ bullpen started their walkathon in the seventh, Milwaukee turned a 2-2 gridlock into a 6-3 win. We saw promise in the Brew Crew pitching, and for once, that script held up.

The Rays moneyline over the Red Sox? We can admit it: Boston’s offense still has a pulse, and we underplayed Fenway’s magic. We bought into Tampa’s pitching, and Boston just sprayed doubles all afternoon.

The Nationals over the A’s play seemed logical — Oakland’s offense had scored eight runs COMBINED all week — but the A’s found just enough to push past fading Nats bats, and we’re eating chalk. Again.

Atlanta Braves ML? On paper, Atlanta's bats feast at home, especially against shaky Texas starters. On grass, though, they fell flat — barely scratching together three hits, while the Rangers pieced together a classic “death by a thousand singles” attack.

We tried to believe in a Padres bounceback in Kansas City, figuring Musgrove would finally pitch like it’s not April. Instead, the Royals chased him in five, and the only bounce was our pick’s hopes dwindling mid-inning.

The Mets were supposed to sneak one out in Philadelphia, but the Phils’ bullpen didn’t get the memo. And, as for the Cardinals +1.5? Arizona just kept stacking runs every time the Cards scratched across one of their own. We misread that shape of the game entirely.

No bad luck talk here: these teams simply outplayed the model’s expectations. That’s on us.
